Have you ever wondered how to start your own cut flower garden? Here's your chance to learn everything you need to know about having success with your flower garden, from starting seeds to harvesting armfuls of gorgeous blooms to decorate your home throughout the summer.
This class takes place in two installments throughout the growing season, and gives you hands-on experience in all stages of growing, caring for, and harvesting flowers. All materials will be provided, as will a course handbook that summarizes all of the information covered in each session.
Dates for these courses are as follows:
Part I: Planning the Cut Flower Garden: Sunday, April 13th, 2025, from 11-2:30 (includes provided lunch)
Part II: Maintaining & Harvesting the Cut Flower Garden: Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 2-4 PM (includes light refreshments)
Part I: Planning the Cut Flower Garden will cover the following:
Seed starting demo, with hands-on participation
Selecting varieties to grow for stunning blooms all season
Seed and dahlia tuber sourcing
Space planning and garden location selection
Soil & bed prep
Presprouting and dividing dahlias, with hands-on participation
Garden tools and where to source them
Transplanting guidance, with hands-on participation
What you get:
12 flower seedlings to plant in your own garden (mix of zinnias, cosmos, snapdragons and greenery)
3 assorted dahlia tubers
A comprehensive cut flower growing resource handout, including a digital version that hyperlinks to all of our favorite flower sources on the web
Lunch provided by Deep Rooted and Pennycress Studio
Expert advice from Tiffany and Samantha throughout the flower growing season
Part II: Maintaining & Harvesting the Cut Flower Garden will cover the following:
Q+A and troubleshooting of your cut flower garden progress
Harvesting techniques for different varieties of flowers, with hands-on participation
Post-harvest handling instructions, including flower conditioning, storage, and vase life tips
Growing maintenance, including special care for different types of flowers to encourage healthy, prolific blooms all summer long
Special instruction about dahlia maintenance
